Objectives: Lake Como, Blanca, Ellingwood, Lindsey
Theme: The mountain is the setting. Formation is the purpose.
Lake Como Expedition • Aug 19–24, 2026
Psalm 118:24 (NIV 2011)
“The LORD has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.”
A long drive can be treated as dead time. Companionship turns it into part of the pilgrimage. The expedition begins not at the trailhead but in the attention you give Vonda and the unhurried way you receive the day.
Question worth carrying: Can I enter this trip without mentally rushing ahead of the person beside me?
Bedtime: Psalm 4:8 - “In peace I will lie down and sleep.”
Psalm 19:1 (NIV 2011)
“The heavens declare the glory of God.”
A dune retains no footprint for long; the wind eventually erases every mark. That impermanence need not diminish the day. It can free you to receive beauty as gift rather than achievement.
Question worth carrying: Where does wonder become worship rather than consumption?
Bedtime: Job 12:10 - “In his hand is the life of every creature.”
Luke 14:28 (NIV 2011)
“Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost?”
Packing is a hidden act of love. Tonight’s order becomes tomorrow’s margin: fewer rushed decisions, less burden on the group, and more capacity to notice what matters.
Question worth carrying: What preparation today will make me a steadier companion tomorrow?
Bedtime: Proverbs 16:3 - “Commit to the LORD whatever you do.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9 (NIV 2011)
“Two are better than one.”
The strongest climber can make the day about pace. The formed climber makes it about presence: carrying a little more when needed, waiting without irritation, and refusing to make another person’s pace a moral verdict.
Question worth carrying: How can I make the approach better for someone else?
Bedtime: Psalm 121:1-2 - “My help comes from the LORD.”
Habakkuk 3:19 (NIV 2011)
“He makes my feet like the feet of a deer.”
A summit can become an altar or a trophy. Gratitude decides which. Turning around can also be faithful; the mountain does not need to be conquered for the day to bear fruit.
Question worth carrying: Will I measure this day only by summits, or by how I love, listen, and respond?
Bedtime: Psalm 103:2 - “Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”
Colossians 3:17 (NIV 2011)
“Whatever you do... do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
The climb is completed in the return: patience in the vehicle, gratitude at home, unpacking what needs to be dried, and carrying the humility of the mountain into ordinary service.
Question worth carrying: What will I bring home besides photographs and summit counts?
Bedtime: Mark 6:31 - “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
Philippians 1:6 (NIV 2011)
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.”
The expedition notebook matters because memory softens details. Record not only what happened, but what happened within you and between you and the people who shared the road.
Question worth carrying: What should be remembered because it can shape the next journey?
Bedtime: Psalm 90:12 - “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
